Good season at Natimuk

has been a good season at the GrainCorp site at Natimuk in the Wimmera. The site took a record of over 90,000 tonnes of grain this year, compared to 55,000 last year, and averages of 20-30,000 tonnes a year just five years ago. GrainCorp has invested in the site and put in more bunker space so it can handle more tonnage. This year, the focus has been on barley and canola. Site manager Steven Loft said the local west Wimmera harvest had been good. “We were especially lucky with the barley, the vast majority of it was malt.” He said close to 90pc of the barley delivered was malt, whereas other parts of the state had much more feed on their hands. Harvest casuals Sarah Patterson (left) and Alice Cook were busy sealing bunker seams this week, with farmer deliveries virtually finished. The pair have worked at the Natimuk site over the school holiday period.
