Young farmers to gather in Sydney

The young farmers section of NSW Farmers is encouraging youth interested in agriculture to join them at a forum in Sydney this month. The forum, to be held at NSW Farmers’ head offices in St Leonards on Saturday 23rd February, coincides with the young farmer’s annual general meeting and elections. The theme is What’s happening in agriculture? featuring guest speakers Danica Leys – AgChatOz, Joe Dennis – NBN Co, Andrew Gregson – NSW Irrigators’ Council and more. The 2013 annual general meeting marks the end of Moss Vale young farmer Hollie Baillieu’s two year term as chair during which time she has set strong foundations for the section, with memorable events, constructive workshops and leading advocacy work for the establishment of a finance scheme for young people in NSW trying to get started in farming. Ms Baillieu said the past two years have been an incredible time for the young farmers’ section. “Our committee has been dedicated and worked extremely hard and I think we’ve put in place a great plan to engage young farmers in NSW,” Ms Baillieu said. “Young farmers are the future of our association and our industry and with them they bring a range of educational disciplines and farming practices discovered abroad. This event is a great opportunity for young farmers and young agribusiness professionals to meet, mingle and learn with each other from agricultural leaders and change-makers.”
