Wesfarmers retail sales climb

Westfarmers’ retail sales rose 4.7 per cent in the December quarter to $15.1 billion, underpinned by stronger volumes and easing deflation at Coles and new stores at Bunnings. Total sales at Coles rose 5pc to $7.7 billion and same-store sales rose 3.9pc in the three months ending December – the strongest rate of growth for five quarters – as grocery volumes rose and food price deflation eased, The Australian Financial Review reports. At Bunnings, total sales rose 6.6pc in the quarter to $2.2 billion and store-on-store sales grew 4.2pc, beating market forecasts around 3pc.
