Legal information for landholders

Farmers and rural landholders can access user-friendly information on their legal responsibilities in a recently updated series available online. The web-based information explains laws, codes and regulations that are relevant to the operation of a farm or ownership of a rural property. DPI Development Officer Don Shaw said the information series had been prepared with farmers in mind. “The information explains farmers’ and rural landholders’ legal obligations in simple terms,” Mr Shaw said. “When a farmer has a problem or a question, they can find the required information and work out what action they need to take or who they need to speak with,” Mr Shaw said. “A range of farm activities and situations is covered – outlining the legal obligations people need to know.” Mr Shaw said there was strong support from stakeholders for the information to be web-based, rather than hardcopy. “Having all the information online allows us to link to other relevant sites and quickly update contact details and other information,” he said. There are eight topics in the series covering: · Water management · Noxious weed and pest animal management · Waste management · Soil management · An introduction to OH&S · Livestock management · Biodiversity · Chemical management
